I don’t know about you, but working out at home the past few months has been a serious struggle. Being in a tiny apartment with little room and inadequate equipment has been demotivating, to say the least, and it’s thrown a wrench into my overall fitness and health plan for 2020. However, I have found a few fitness apps to be extremely helpful in keeping me more on track.
Below, I’m sharing five fitness apps that have saved my fitness routine throughout quarantine.
StretchIt
As a former college cheerleader, stretching and flexibility have always been an important part of my fitness routine. However, being inside all day and working from home has caused some extra stiffness and muscle aches. That’s why I downloaded StretchIt, an app that offers personalized video-based classes and challenges for all levels that combine techniques from yoga, pilates, rhythmic gymnastics, bodyweight training, and dance
SWEAT
I’m sure you’ve all heard of Kayla Itsines by now, but if not, she’s an Australian fitness influencer and trainer who’s developed a variety of at-home workouts. She partnered with other fitness trainers to bring us the SWEAT app, which hosts programs for everything from HIIT circuits to weight lifting and recovery workouts.
ReNa
ReNa is a lesser-known but extremely effective workout based out of Eugene, Oregon. ReNa founder Jon Joseph developed a high-intensity bodyweight workout to safely build muscle and endurance. My college cheer team did this workout during summer practices, and I can honestly say that it put me in the best shape of my life. I was so happy to find out they created an app to provide at-home ReNa workouts during quarantine. You might hate burpees and squats at the end of each class, but you’re sure to see results fast.
Alive by Whitney
Whitney Simmons is another fitness influencer I discovered via Instagram – she posts circuit workouts on her feed and on YouTube. Her app features programs and daily workouts that focus on different aspects of your body and training techniques (HIIT, abs, legs, etc.). These have been really helpful for me, and I love how positive and motivating Whitney is!
Nike Run Club
Running has been my main form of exercise this year since it gets me outside of the apartment. I’m no marathoner, and I usually only run about one to two miles, but this app helps me keep track of my time and progress. It also has several guided runs, which coach you through your run with a recorded voice-over. You can use guided runs for anything from recovery to longer pushes, and these have helped me reach my daily running goals.
